Some intake systems we sell are not legal for use in California or other states adopting California emission standards (Their CARB Exempt status is listed as "no"). These same systems are street legal in all other states. Systems that are CARB exempt are street legal in all 50 states. Please use our part number search to identify the CARB status of a part by vehicle.

| TYPES OF AEM AIR INTAKE SYSTEMS: |
|
Cold Air Intakes
A cold air intake system relocates the filter outside of the engine compartment to deliver cool air inlet temperatures. Cooler air carries more oxygen, which translates into a more intense explosion in the combustion chamber to create more horsepower and torque. But that's only part of the power equation. Tuning the inlet pipe in length and diameter to match the engine's resonance helps move more air to the cylinders (think of your engine as a big air pump), and this tuning allows us to deliver large power gains. We also monitor fuel trim correction factors and all OBDII sensors during product development to eliminate leaning the engine out and/or throwing a check engine light. |
Short Ram Air Intakes
AEM short ram intake systems are an economical alternative to our cold air systems and deliver performance, value and ease of installation. Our short ram intakes install easily under the hood and cost less because we use less material to manufacture them.
During the development process, we found certain applications respond favorably to shorter inlet lengths over our longer cold air designs. For these applications (denoted in the search results page), we offer a short ram system only. We perform extensive temperature testing to locate the filter in the coolest area of the engine compartment. Please refer to our temperature testing procedures for more information. |

Electronically Tuned Intake (ETI) Systems
The Next Generation of Air Intake Technology
Once again AEM is raising engineering standards with an
all new series of innovative air intake systems. With a
revolutionary ETI module and fully integrated design, we
have eliminated the need to detune or stage an intake tube
diameter as it crosses the MAF sensor. The sensor is
electronically adjusted to read proper air density instead
of using physical tube designs intended to "trick" the MAF
reading. The result is bigger horsepower and torque gains.
TECH TALK:
Most modern fuel injected cars use a Mass Air flow (MAF)
sensor to determine the air flow rate into the engine and
meter fuel according to input from the sensor. The relation
between the voltage output of the sensor and mass air flow
is adversely affected by a shift to a larger diameter intake
tube because the airspeed is reduced. This causes the MAF
sensor to "under report" air flow causing a lean condition or triggering a
Check Engine Light. To accommodate MAF sensor reporting, many intake
systems reduce the diameter of the intake tube near the MAF sensor to stock or
near stock size because of the need to maintain the correct air speed for the
sensor to report the correct flow rate to the ECU.
AEM's ETI Intake Systems use an alternative design approach that allows the intake tube to maintain its
diameter, resulting in more air flow into the throttle body. The ETI Intake
System allows AEM to tune an engine for even more power by avoiding any tube
down-sizing that will reduce overall airflow and horsepower. Instead, the ETI
electronically communicates with the MAF sensor to ensure an accurate amount
of fuel is being delivered even though the tube is larger in size than the
stock system. This means the vehicle maintains the calibration as intended by
the factory while enjoying the benefits of our custom designed aftermarket
intake system.

BRUTE FORCE Truck Air Intakes
AEM designs its BRUTE FORCE air intakes for popular trucks, SUVs and late-model, fuel injected muscle cars, and dyno-tunes each system to produce more torque and horsepower for large displacement engines.
Our mechanical engineers emphasize tuning the resonance properties on designs that include an aluminum inlet pipe to help carry more air to the intake valves. In a few designs we use a molded High Density Polyethylene tube which allows our engineers to route incoming air in more creative ways. We route our plumbing so that the filter draws air from a safe and cool location. Many designs include a steel powder coated heat shield to shroud the filter from engine heat and road dirt. Every BRUTE FORCE truck intake we make is guaranteed for the life of your vehicle.
Our R&D testing procedures and quality-first manufacturing processes set our intakes apart. But what makes our intakes better is they deliver more torque and horsepower while providing superior filtration and performance using our Dryflow® synthetic air filter. Combine this with a steel heat shield, reinforced brackets, unmatched looks and a lifetime guarantee, and it's easy to see why AEM BRUTE FORCE Intakes deliver the most "Air Power." |
Brute Force HD Diesel Air Intakes
AEM Induction Systems is proud to release its Brute Force HD air intakes for diesel applications with a massive Dryflow®
air filter element! AEM Brute Force HD intakes are available for popular late model Cummins, Duramax and Power Stroke
diesel engines. We engineer our Brute Force HD intakes to deliver maximum
flow, filtration and durability for heavy duty applications and they even
outperform our BRUTE FORCE intakes for these vehicles in both dust holding capacity and filter flow.

AEM's reusable Dryflow® air filter for diesel applications is huge. Compared to the standard 9" Brute Force Dryflow® Filter, the Brute Force HD Dryflow® filter features over twice the surface area of filter media and utilizes deep, bull-nosed pleats to improve dust holding capacity and increase intervals between cleanings. The Dryflow®
air filter does not use oil to trap dirt so it takes the guesswork out of servicing your filter.
AEM manufactures its BruteForce HD intakes from mandrel-bent, lightweight aluminum with high-strength dogbone brackets and dual rubber soft mounts for maximum durability, and includes a heat shield (when applicable) with a powder coated black finish, a complete hardware kit and comprehensive photo installation instructions. Brute Force HD intakes are available with a gunmetal powdercoat or mirror-polished finish. |

Dual Chamber Air Intakes
These air intake systems use a patented dual chamber design that maximizes horsepower and torque -
typically producing even more power than our own cold air systems.
On a dyno graph, the area under the power band (or power curve) represents the amount of effort that an engine is producing. The larger the overall area under the curve, the more power your engine is making. The
system utilizes a dual chamber (using two different diameters and lengths of
piping) that creates multiple frequency sound waves to produce a large area
under the curve. These sound waves help charge the cylinders with more air
and are what enables them to outperform our
cold air systems.
We have found that inlet length plays a vital role in the power production
of Dual Chamber systems and not all Dual Chamber induction systems relocate the filter outside of the engine compartment. In these cases, we performed extensive temperature testing to locate the filter in the coolest area of the engine compartment to achieve the lowest inlet temperatures possible. Please refer to our
temperature testing procedures for more information. |

Hybrid Air Intakes
So you've swapped an H22 into your EG Civic...now what do you do about getting an
air intake that fits? Do you order one for the chassis, or for the engine? Will a chassis system fit, or will it sacrifice performance, or both? Relax, we've done the R&D for you!
AEM Hybrid intakes are direct-fit intakes for Hondas and Acuras with engine swaps, and eliminate the need to buy a system that doesn't fit and have to cut it up, which
may void the warranty. Hybrid intakes install using standard tools with no additional modifications. We designed our
hybrid intakes for high-output engines with internal engine modifications like cams and porting, and manufacture them using three-inch mandrel bent aircraft aluminum for maximum flow. Since we design our
hybrid intakes for cars with engine swaps, they are intended for off-road use only and are not 50-state legal.
