For nearly fifteen years John Pangilinan, or JP for short, has been serious about custom vehicles and entering them into car shows. His background in the world of automotive aftermarket performance, action sports, photography, and design all contribute to his unique approach to vehicle customization. JP has completed five builds for the Hyundai Motor America Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show booth. When JP was approached by Hyundai to build another vehicle for its 2015 booth he was given a choice of vehicles. However, John decided to do something a little different and build a custom 2016 Hyundai Tucson crossover SUV with a turbocharged 1.6-liter "Gamma" four-cylinder engine as opposed to his more customary sport compact builds.

John Pangilinan dubbed the 2016 Hyundai Tucson turbo build the Adventuremobile. John intended the Adventuremobile build to blend Hyundai's new crossover platform with a passion for the great outdoors making it perfect for a weekend getaway. Hyundai Motor America's press release described the Adventuremobile as at home on the daily commute or lugging gear up into the mountains for a weekend out of town. "Designed with the weekend adventurer in mind, the Tucson was the perfect platform for an ‘Adventuremobile,'" said John Pangilinan. "The build blends performance with the excitement of the great outdoors, without sacrificing daily usability. The vehicle promotes exploration, making it ideal for the daily commute, weekend excursions, and the occasional road trip."

JP looked to AEM Induction Systems to give the 2016 SEMA Show Hyundai Tucson Adventuremobile a power boost with an AEM upgraded air intake system and charge pipe kit

Probably the most obvious adventure addition is a Treeline Tamarack roof-top tent, with ample room to sleep two campers, and Goal Zero solar panels to power all of their accessories. Additionally, the exterior has been beefed up with an Aries bull bar and side steps, Rigid Industries LED lights, and a BASF army green paint scheme by Strasse Sport. A custom 1.5" suspension lift provides increased ground clearance, and Toyo Open Country A/T II tires with RAYS Gram Lights 57DR wheels provide the extra grip needed for the occasional off-road excursion. JP said he wanted to build the Adventuremobile with attainability in mind and to inspire potential Hyundai Tucson buyers.

JP looked to AEM Induction Systems to give the 2016 SEMA Show Hyundai Tucson Adventuremobile a power boost with an upgraded AEM air intake system and charge pipe kit. The engine inhales with an AEM Dryflow air filter and exhales more freely through a Magnaflow exhaust system. "AEM adds to the sound, and you can hear it over stock," said John Pangilinan. He continued, "The sound keeps the AEM intake in the back of your mind without being annoying. It gives you confidence knowing you have extra power on tap as well as reduced turbo lag, and better acceleration."

The JP Edition 2016 Hyundai Tucson Adventuremobile was revealed at Hyundai's SEMA press conference on November 3, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. PT, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Detailed modifications for this build are listed below.
