Lexus IS 250, IS 350 and RC 350 Cold Air Intake from AEM Adds Verified Horsepower

AEM cold air intake system for Lexus IS 250, IS 350 and RC 350

An AEM cold air intake system can add power to your Lexus IS 250, IS 350 and RC 350.

Both the 2.5L and 3.5L versions of the V6 motors fitted to the 2015 Lexus IS 250, IS350, and RC 350 are part of the Toyota GR family of engines. They all feature an open-deck, 60° die-cast aluminum block with aluminum DOHC, four valves per cylinder heads. This engine also features forged steel connecting rods, one-piece cast camshafts, and a cast aluminum lower intake manifold. The 2.5 L version of Toyota's GR motor retains the same bore as the 3.5 L engine, but with a shorter stroke to achieve the smaller displacement.

Under hood installation is a straightforward process that takes around 90 minutes.

With the deep breathing capabilities of the dual-overhead camshaft four-valve per cylinder head, what often limits power is the factory air intake system. Compromised for any number of reasons, the stock system doesn't deliver the airflow to the engine that an AEM 22-688C cold air intake can.

The AEM cold air intake is a relatively inexpensive DIY modification that takes around an hour and a half to install with tools just about everyone has in their garage.

The results of AEM testing are that an otherwise stock 2.5L V6 Lexus IS-250 on the chassis dynamometer, the AEM 22-688C bolted to the test vehicle output power increased to 169 horsepower and 152 ft-lbs. of torque.

The AEM 22-688C air intake system ingeniously capitalizes on the large OEM intake filter housing so only lower-temperature outside air can reach the AEM replacement air filter provided. Cooler air is denser, carrying additional oxygen to which your engine adds more fuel, the requirement in increasing horsepower.

The filter itself is an OEM-sized (drop-in) non-woven synthetic filter media to help protect your engine from harmful road grit.

The air intake system comes complete with an AEM low restriction air filter, gunmetal grey powder-coated intake tubing. The AEM 22-688C air intake systems come with the necessary boots, clamps, and hardware for an OEM-type appearance. The kit also accommodates all factory emissions and vacuum lines. OEM mounting brackets and hardware are utilized for seamless installation.

Your AEM air filter is good for about 100,000 miles with proper service (depending upon your driving conditions). Cleaning consists of an application of AEM synthetic air filter cleaner which will loosen and dissolve grime and dirt built up on the filter, after which the filter can simply be rinsed with water, allowed to air dry and reinstalled. No oiling required.

The 22-688C fits the following vehicles:
2015 Lexus RC350 3.5L V6
2015 Lexus IS350 3.5L V6
2015 Lexus IS250 2.5L V6

The AEM 21-792C performance cold air intake system increases the volume of cold air by replacing the stock air box with an oversized AEM DryFlow synthetic air filter, surrounded by a heat shield that seals against the underside of the hood to prevent warm engine air from entering the system. The high-flow AEM air filter removes significantly more dirt from the air than a paper filter, and it won't have to be cleaned for up to 100,000 miles (depending on road conditions). That clean air then gets channeled to the throttle body through a wide-diameter AEM intake tube, which is made from mandrel bent aluminum to eliminate airflow restrictions and turbulence. It also has integrated fittings for the mass airflow sensor and crankcase vent tube, so no modifications will be required, and installation will only take about 90 minutes.

Aasbo and Papadakis Racing Wins Formula Drift at Orlando Speedworld Leading Triple Podium for AEM

Frederic Aasbo at Formula Drift round 3 in Orlando, Florida

AEM-sponsored Frederic Aasbo headed into battle at Formula Drift round 3 in Orlando, Florida.

Fredric Aasbo entered the Formula Drift event at Orlando Speedworld, in Florida, without a lot of confidence. Aasbo, who recently signed to AEM Intakes, emerged as the champion and the leader in the Formula Drift Pro division standings.

Before the race Aasbo said he wasn't very confident in his car, but with good lines and holding off the competition, he emerged vistorious.

Aasbo had little reason to be worried about the event in Orlando. He was a podium finisher at the event in Long Beach earlier this year and was a contender for the lead in the Formula Drift Pro standings after the first two events. Still, he said his car was not as fast as some of his competitors and that made him a little nervous.

"How am I going to hang with these guys?" Aasbo said he after the event in Orlando on June 4. "What we decided to do is to focus on what we are good at. Good strong lines over and over again. It just played out. A lot of our competition ended up doing all these minor mistakes. The rest paid off."

Kristaps Bluss and Chris Forsberg both fought hard but weren't able to take over the lead from Aasbo.

Aasbo and his Rockstar Energy/Nexen Tire/SR by Toyota Scion tC team decided to play to its car's strength. What the car lacked in speed, it more than made up for in handling and traction. Aasbo decided to concentrate on making consistent, error-free runs rather than speed through the course recklessly.

In the final round in Orlando, Aasbo took on Bluss. Bluss almost edged him out but over rotated and almost came to a full stop on the track, thereby giving Aasbo the win

"The tracks that we race on are all kind of different. Some of them are power, grip tracks. Some of them are more technical tracks," Aasbo said. "This is a track where it is an outright grip race. Our car is very good in a lot of respects. It is very easy to place. It has drivability and it has a very consistent tire, it allows me to do the same thing over and over again. We don't always have the outright speed to match some of the faster cars."

Aasbo faced Kristaps Bluss in the final round in Orlando. Bluss, another AEM-sponsored driver, reached the final for the first time in his Formula Drift Pro career. He was in the lead but over rotated and almost came to a complete stop. Aasbo was able to pass Bluss even though the two cars collided during the pass. Aasbo won the final round and took over the lead in the Formula Drift Pro standings.

The top three; Aasbo, Bluss, and Forsberg are all sponsored by AEM Intakes.

"In that respect I am really proud of us sticking to what we could do," Aasbo said, "but we're definitely working on getting more speed for the next couple of rounds in the championship."

AEM triple wins with Aasbo, Bluss, and Forsberg at Formula Drift in Orlando, Florida

AEM's first triple podium in Formula Drift, brought to you by Frederic Aasbo, Kristaps Bluss, and Chris Forsberg.

Aasbo has a 12-point lead over Vaughn Gittin Jr. in the Formula Drift Pro standings after three events. Fellow AEM-sponsored racer Chris Forsberg, who was third at Orlando, is third in the Formula Drift Pro standings, 38 points behind Aasbo. Aasbo, Bluss and Forsberg are all AEM drivers. It is the first time three AEM drivers swept the podium at a Formula Drift Pro event.

The next Formula Drift event is at The Wall Speedway in New Jersey on June 17-18. Aasbo called the course a cheese grater.

"The walls on the outer bank will shred your car apart," Aasbo said. "It's a very unforgiving track. A lot of dreams have been crushed there over the years. But I like it. It's a lot of fun. It has everything. It's actually a really cool stadium. We have really high hopes going in there. We have a lot of respect as competitors for that event. The best we can do is bring our A game and do the best job we possibly can."

2015-2016 Honda CR-V Owners with an AEM Cold Air Intake Can Expect a Boost in Horsepower

AEM 21-790C air intake system for Honda 2015-2016 CR-V 2.4L iVTEC engine

The AEM 21-790C was specifically designed and engineered for the 2.4L iVTEC engine in Honda's 2015-2016 CR-V.

Honda's CR-V has been a consistent performer in the small sport utility/crossover arena since its introduction in 1997, to the point of being described in the motoring press as doing its job as reliably as a polo shirt or a carton of orange juice. Further, the "CR-V" acronym in the manufacturer's literature means "comfortable runabout vehicle", which, while nice, can also be construed as a bit bland. So when the 2015 facelift and engine-plus-transmission upgrade debuted, many took notice and U.S. sales jumped by 10,000 over 2014.

AEM 21-790C air intake system for Honda 2015-2016 CR-V 2.4L iVTEC engine

An oversized AEM air filter is protected by a heat shield to get cooler air into the intake and provide increased horsepower.

The refreshed exterior (grille, bumpers, wheels, headlights) gave it a classier look. Enhanced interior surfaces, more sound-dampening insulation, and better rear seat-area ventilation helped the cabin. Then the 2.4L i-VTEC inline 4-cylinder engine was adapted from the Accord and paired with a continuously-variable 5-speed transmission (CVT) to complete the picture, and is the best part of the current vehicle's story, which has carried over to 2016.

The new-to-CR-V direct-injected power plant provides the same 185 horsepower, but at 600 revs sooner, and 181 lb-ft of torque at 4400rpm (up approximately18lb-ft over the previous). Acceleration is better, especially in town or when negotiating a mountain road with the increased torque.

All this pep and efficiency promises to please drivers of many persuasions, but it can be taken one step higher with an upgraded cold air intake system. What if you could achieve up to an estimated 10hp and 14ft-lb torque gain? A replacement cold air intake system by AEM can do just that, depending on driving conditions.

Designed and engineered specifically for the 2015-2016 CR-V 2.4L, the AEM 21-790C cold air intake replaces the stock restrictive intake housing and filter with a mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube finished in durable gunmetal gray powdercoat. It is made to accommodate Honda's factory emissions control devices including the mass airflow sensor and PCV line. The red synthetic, oil-free AEM Dryflow air filter fits directly into the original air box space and is protected by a heat shield designed to reduce intake air temperature and increase horsepower.

AEM 21-790C air intake system installed in engine bay of Honda 2015-2016 CR-V 2.4L iVTEC engine

AEM's 21-790C system has just 13 pieces and can be installed without the need for special tools.

AEM's air filter is washable and reusable, and should last the life of your CR-V. Its tapered cylindrical design has an extra-large surface area producing outstanding air flow and filtration. It can go up to 100,000 miles (depending on driving conditions) before cleaning is needed. AEM's 1-1000 air filter cleaner spray will loosen dust and dirt particles so they can be rinsed out. The resulting clean filter can then air dry and be reinstalled with no oiling needed.

There are just 13 pieces in the 21-790C kit, and no special tools are required to complete the installation. A set of printed instructions come with the system and are also viewable online. You or your mechanic can do the job in around 90 minutes. The 21-790C is backed by AEM's Lifetime Limited Warranty.

The AEM 21-790C cold air intake system fits the following Honda vehicles:
2016 Honda CR-V 2.4L L4
2015 Honda CR-V 2.4L L4

You can view all the air intakes that AEM makes for the Honda CR-V at the Air Intake Systems for the Honda CR-V page. You can view all the AEM performance products for any vehicle by using the Search by Vehicle tool and you can find a local AEM retailer by plugging your location into the AEM Dealer Search as well.

2012-2015 BMW 335i Gains Horsepower, Torque, and Better Sound with AEM Air Intake

2012-2015 BMW 335i Cold Air Intake

The AEM 21-754DS features an aerodynamically engineered intake tube formed out of high-density, low-restriction polyethylene that produces superior airflow to the 335i's turbo.

Widely respected and held in high esteem by the motoring public and the auto resale industry, BMW's 3 Series has provided a top-notch sport sedan driving experience over five generations. When BMW completely revised the 3 Series sedan in 2012, it was a highly scrutinized change, but everyone came away smiling. The sixth-gen result was a bigger car with a redesigned exterior and more interior space, but, thanks to liberal use of aluminum in the suspension system, lighter than its predecessor. Plus, the newly introduced Driving Dynamics Control, (four transmission modes that let the driver select the throttle response, steering effort, and shift patterns of the automatic transmission) for all models appealed to drivers and provided increased engine efficiency and fuel economy. An optional eight-speed automatic transmission and an auto stop/start system comprised the changes to the powertrain, and BMW was again leading popularity charts. AEM realized this and created the new 21-754DS air intake system for the 2012-2015 BMW 335i.

AEM 2012-2015 BMW 335i Air Intake

The oversized AEM Dryflow synthetic air filter is mounted inside an open-bottom air box that protects the intake system from heat while helping to produce that aggressive 335is-like note on acceleration.

At the top of the range is the 335i as a sedan or coupe with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. This power plant has carried over successfully from 2012 through 2015. The 335i is the epitome of step-up vehicles for those engaged with the marque at 320 and 328 levels, or the driver looking for the next big thing for daily driving and weekend touring.

While already a great performer with 0-60 acceleration at about 5.4 seconds, 60-0 braking at about 117 ft., and respectable fuel economy of 25 mpg combined for the sedan (with automatic trans) and 22 combined for the coupe (manual), you can take the 335i to another level with increased horsepower and torque. The way to accomplish this levitation for the 2012-2015 335i sedan and 2013 335i coupe is with the new AEM 21-754DS cold air intake system, which, in dynomometer testing on a 2012 sedan showed an estimated gain of 12 horsepower and 20 foot-pounds of torque at 3200 rpm. You could really go places with those numbers, and the car will have superior airflow and filtration, while sounding very much like their sporty 335is sibling.

Designed and engineered to replace the factory intake housing, air is brought into the system through an oversized red AEM Dryflow synthetic, washable air filter fitted to an open-bottom AEM air box. The replacement air box not only protects the intake system from engine bay heat but helps to produce that aggressive 335is-like note on acceleration.

The 21-754DS system specifically accommodates the 335i's factory emissions control devices, including the mass airflow sensor. The aerodynamically engineered intake tube is formed out of high-density polyethylene and creates a superior flow of air into the engine’s turbo inlet after it has passed through the cylindrical AEM Dryflow filter.

AEM 2012-2015 BMW 335i Cold AIr Intake

AEM cold air intake systems are very straightforward to install with no special tools required.

There is also economy built into this system in that the synthetic, oil-free air filter can be cleaned and re-used. Intended to last up to 100,000 miles before a service (depending on driving conditions or owner preference), the filter is easily removed, cleaned with AEM 1-1000 Air Filter Cleaner, rinsed, dried, and replaced.

The air intake system is easy to install with commonly available tools and it is backed by AEM's Lifetime Limited Warranty.

To source an AEM 21-754DS cold air intake for your vehicle, use the AEM online product search at AEMintakes.com, or find a dealer in your area with the AEM dealer search.

The following BMW vehicles can be fitted with the AEM 21-754DS cold air intake system:
