AEM cold air intake systems trace their roots back to 1994 when AEM began selling its first packaged cold air intake system for the Honda Civic CRX ensuring AEM’s success in the import tuner market from the very beginning. Over the course of more than 20 years AEM has worked to understand both the practical and theoretical side of engine performance by combining street experience with technical savvy. During this same time most auto manufacturers had shifted toward front wheel drive cars with very few V8 engine options. Thus an AEM cold air intake became the performance upgrade that many import car enthusiasts sought out first.

AEM offers a 50-state street legal cold air intake system shown to produce an estimated 24 additional horsepower on an otherwise stock 2009 Dodge Challenger 6.1L HEMI V8

In 2005 Dodge made a bold, but successful move, when its engineers used many Mercedes-Benz components to create the LX platform based Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger. Fortunately, the principles behind increased performance apply to modern V8 Mopar muscle cars just the same way it applies to smaller import cars. The biggest difference between engineering an AEM cold air intake for a Dodge Hemi and a Honda VTEC is that there is huge potential for even larger power gains from a V8 engine. AEM Induction Systems engineers design cold air intake systems as a fully integrated component of the vehicle. More airflow is only part of the power equation. Reducing air intake tract restriction, turbulence, and reducing inlet air temperature allows an AEM CAI to increase power for better acceleration.

In the case of 2009-2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger 5.7L R/T models, or 2008-2010 Dodge Challenger and Charger 6.1L SRT-8 cars, AEM offers a 50-state street legal cold air intake system shown to produce an estimated 24 additional horsepower on an otherwise stock 2009 Dodge Challenger 6.1L HEMI V8. These kind of horsepower gains are made possible by using an oversized non-oiled AEM Dryflow air filter 21-2147DK for high airflow, fitted to a mandrel bent aluminum cold air intake tube to relocate the air filter behind the front bumper for cooler, denser, airflow. The cold air intake tubes for 2009-2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger 5.7L R/T models, or 2008, 2009, and 2010 Dodge Challenger and Charger 6.1L SRT-8 cars are finished with a durable charcoal gray powder coat finish, number 21-8223DC, or mirror-like aluminum finish, number 21-8223DP, for good looks in addition to a 50-state street legal performance increase.

The AEM Dryflow air filter used in both Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger cold air intakes is built with a robust synthetic air filter media designed to be washable and reusable. An AEM Dryflow air intake filter can go up to 100,000 miles between cleanings under normal highway driving conditions. When it’s time to clean the air filter, it can be easily completed using AEM air filter cleaner, number 1-1000. Cleaning is performed by following a simple four step process. Because an AEM dry filter does not require oil, the air filter can be returned to service sooner and with less effort. AEM is so confident in the quality and durability of its products that AEM backs its Dryflow Air Filters and Cold Air Intake Systems with a lifetime limited warranty.

2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima AEM Air Intake Gives a Big Upgraded

2011-2014 Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima 2.4L models can experience an increase in horsepower and torque

2011 - 2015 Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima 2.4L models can experience an increase in horsepower and torque while remaining in compliance with emissions laws

Sixth generation Hyundai Sonata as well as third generation Kia Optima models come standard with the 2.4-liter Theta GDI direct injection engine. This new engine makes more horsepower than the standard inline four that it replaces, however many 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima 2.4L owners are looking to add more power with an AEM cold air intake. AEM 50-state street legal air intake 22-685C differs from the alternate AEM cold air intake system available for 2011-2014 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L models because AEM designers retained the use of the stock air filter box. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L models do not currently have 50-state street legal status, but may become so in the near future. Designing AEM cold air intake, number 22-685C, around the stock air filter box allowed AEM Intake designers to retain all factory connections, including stock emissions control equipment, to create an air intake system. Installation of the AEM 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L air intake is incredibly easy compared to the alternate AEM cold air intake and only requires minimal tools with a reduced installation time.

The maze of accordion like intake tubing, and noise baffling installed at the factory adds a source of restriction to stock 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L models. Included in the AEM air intake system for 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L models is a free-flowing mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube. This new aluminum AEM air intake tube is designed to eliminate the restriction found in the stock air ducting. Restriction isn’t the only trouble with the stock air intake as it also creates turbulence in the incoming air. The mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube used in 22-685C has a smooth and consistent internal surface for reduced airflow turbulence. By reducing air intake tract restriction, and turbulence, AEM is able to increase horsepower, torque, acceleration, and provide better engine sound with the installation of an air intake system.

The AEM air intake for 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L models includes a powder coated aluminum air intake tube and an AEM Dryflow panel air filter

To complement the engine compartment of 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L models the AEM intake tube is protected with a durable charcoal gray powder coat finish that will look great for years to come. An added benefit of the AEM mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube is that it will eliminate the stock intake noise baffling system. This will give 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L models a sportier engine sound. To accompany that sportier engine sound AEM Sonata and Optima air intake 22-685C is tuned to provide more horsepower and torque across the RPM range. Making usable horsepower increases in common RPM ranges is a design goal at AEM as this yields a performance upgrade that can be used even during normal driving situations.

AEM Dryflow air filters are performance designed to reduce restriction over typical paper air filters. The AEM 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L air intake system includes AEM Dryflow replacement air filter 28-20448. Using an AEM Dryflow replacement air filter helps to reduce the restriction inherent to stock disposable paper air filters as well as save time and money on maintenance. AEM Dryflow air filters are built with a robust synthetic air filter media designed to be washable and reusable. An AEM Dryflow replacement air filter can go up to 50,000 miles between cleanings under normal highway driving conditions. When it’s time to clean the air filter, it can be easily completed using AEM air filter cleaner, number 1-1000. Cleaning is performed by following a simple four step process. Because an AEM dry filter does not require oil, the air filter can be returned to service sooner and with less effort.

The AEM air intake system 22-685C is an incredibly fast and easy upgrade for 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 2.4L models. By retaining the stock air filter box, installation of air intake 22-685C can be completed with minimal tools and less time than the alternate AEM air intake system for 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L and 2011-2015 Kia Optima 2.4L models. Simple to follow step by step instructions are included and there is no need to make any other modifications to your Korean built car for increased performance. AEM performance air intake 22-685C is street legal in all 50 states for 2011-2014 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L and 2011-2015 Kia Optima 2.4L models making this performance upgrade available in California and other states adopting California emissions standards.
