The 2015 Subaru WRX STI is powered by the EJ257 intercooled and turbocharged H4 boxer engine.

The VA series 2015 Subaru WRX is the first WRX to move away from the EJ-series engine replacing it with a 2.0L FA20DIT direct injection boxer engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger.

AEM air intake 41-1408DS was designed to increase the performance of 2013-2016 Subaru BRZ models with a 2.0L H4 engine. This intake kit includes a high-flow AEM filter and an embossed heat shield.

It wasn’t long ago that turbochargers were only used in high-performance cars. The idea is that by forcing air into the combustion chamber performance is improved over a naturally aspirated engine because more air and proportionately more fuel can enter the engine than with atmospheric pressure alone. A turbocharger is one way in which a 4-cylinder car, like a Subaru WRX STi, is able to produce nearly as much horsepower as a V8 engine with a lot less weight. Recently auto manufacturers have been relying on turbocharger technology to improve fuel efficiency. By adding a turbo charger to a smaller than usual engine, cars like the Chevy Cruz Eco 1.4-liter turbo can produce 138 horsepower, 148 lb-ft of torque, and get an amazing EPA estimated 42 mpg.

Similarly an AEM cold air intake system is able to improve an engine’s efficiency by reducing the amount of power being spent on drawing air into the engine. Typically, the factory air intake tubing, stock air filter box, and disposable air filter is a significant point of restriction in modern fuel injected cars. The stock components are particularly restrictive in cars with turbocharged engines.
