The AEM 21-8500DC Brute Force Air Intake System produces horsepower and torque gains by replacing the vehicle’s restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing. This air intake system was designed, tuned and dyno-tested to fit specific Nissan Frontier and Xterra models. Air enters the system through an extra-large AEM Dryflow synthetic washable air filter for outstanding air flow, filtration and performance. The air filter is located in the original air box space and is protected by a heat shield which is designed to reduce intake air temperature and increase horsepower. The intake tubing is constructed from mandrel-bent aluminum featuring a durable gunmetal gray powder coated finish. This air intake system was developed to accommodate the engine’s factory emissions control devices including the mass air flow sensor, IAT sensor, vacuum line, idle air hose and PCV tube. The tapered cylinder shaped AEM Dryflow air filter is made from an oil-free, synthetic filter media that can be used for up to 100,000 miles before cleaning is needed (depending on driving conditions). The air intake system is easy to install with commonly available tools and it is backed by AEM's Lifetime Limited Warranty. Some AEM air intakes are not legal for sale or use in California and other states adopting California emission standards, while others are 50 state legal. March 28, 2019 - Part 21-8500DC
I have had this AEM’s cold air system for more than 5 years & live in California where they have strict smog restrictions. I have been very happy with the performance & have never had any problems with this part. More low end torque form a dead stop, which is what the 2003 XE Frontier was lacking. I tow a tent trailer to the mountains with no problems, no overheating, faster acceleration, no maintenance on this AEM’s cold air intake. It produces a low growl, which I think is bad ass I had also put a MagnaFlow exhaust on my truck to straighten out the air flow so it breaths better. I urge anyone with a 3.3L frontier or any frontier, to at least do this upgrade, all this is doing is feeding cold air into your engine to breathe better Be sure that you get the sticker that goes on the pipe because this is a special sticker that tells the smog check people & dmv that the part is smog compliant. I had to order the sticker from AEM directly & it was no problem, they sent it quickly after providing them the No. off my aem part. Honestly, I don’t really see that much improvement to the gas mileage, but it probably does help due to less gas needed to start from a dead stop. It is quite peppy & has a low growl, I love it The only other upgrade I have is a O2 wire thing (duh) that makes your O2 sensor work more efficiently. What the aem doesn’t give me is the mid range power I am looking for & May get a computer chip, but they are expensive. I still struggle a bit going up an incline & towing in the Sierra’s. It is easier to get up a hill using the AEM intake with taking advantage of the low end torque before you hit the hill, really accelerate before you hit it & it is easier to get up a hill with more power. This is an easy bolt on effortless installation, it is maintenance free, basically, & I highly recommend this product
