The return of the Chevrolet Camaro in 2010 ends the eight-year hiatus by one of America's classic muscle cars. Now in its fifth generation, the Camaro is packed with a phenomenal list of features. For the SS model, the Camaro is powered by the LS3 6.2-liter V8 engine, which produces 426 horsepower (six-speed manual transmission). The automatic transmission equipped Camaro SS is fitted with the L99 V8 engine producing 400 horsepower. To match the powerful engine of the Camaro, Chevrolet opted to outfit the SS with four-piston Brembo brakes along with the StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control. With a hefty list of performance-oriented features, the 2010 Camaro was clearly designed with the enthusiast in mind.

Once AEM's engineering department caught wind of the new Camaro, they also focused on offering an air intake system for the performance-oriented Camaro owner. For the 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS with the 6.2-liter V8 engine, AEM introduces the 21-8029C Cold Air Intake System in Gunmetal Gray.

In the design of the 21-8029C air intake system, AEM needed to work within the confines of the Camaro's engine compartment. To do so, AEM engineers designed an inlet tube that would give a large volume of airflow with little added restriction. The end result would be a massive four-inch mandrel-bent inlet tube constructed from high-grade aluminum. The design calls for the inlet tube to route from the V8's frontward-facing throttle body into the driver's side wheel well. In addition to the mandrel-bent aluminum tube, AEM utilized the optimal location for a cool air source. In order for the DryFlow performance air filter to occupy this location, the Camaro's windshield washer fluid reservoir had to replaced with a sleeker piece. To this end, AEM designed a washer fluid reservoir that would better accommodate the location. Each AEM 21-8029C air intake system comes complete with a new washer fluid reservoir and mounting bracket.

On the dyno, the AEM 21-8029C Cold Air Intake System yielded impressive results. In factory form, the test vehicle generated a peak of 318.67 horsepower at the wheels. With the AEM 21-8029C cold air intake system in place, the Camaro's peak power output jumped up to 325.98 horsepower at the wheels. A maximum gain of 16.53 horsepower at 4,200 RPM was also recorded with the AEM intake installed.

The 21-8029C Cold Air Intake System for the Camaro uses a DryFlow Performance air filter. The DryFlow air filter has a large surface area that outflows the V8 engine's requirements. The oil-free DryFlow technology is extremely durable and easy to clean. To further augment the filtration properties of the DryFlow performance filter, AEM also offers DryFlow Pre-Filters. Designed to prevent splashes of water and/or mud from saturating the DryFlow air filter, AEM's Pre-Filters are manufactured from durable micro-screen materials that are pretreated with a proprietary hydrophobic process.

Taking to the podium at Round One of the 2010 Formula Drift season, the Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe and its pilot, previous FD Champion and reigning Red Bull World Champion, Rhys "Mad Skills" Millen, rounded out the weekend with a second place finish at the Streets of Long Beach. To add to the season opener success, Rhys qualified in first place out of 50 plus drivers, while also managing to throw down the highest qualifying entry speed of the weekend.

This second place feat at Long Beach meant taking out both of the two-time Formula Drift Champions along the way; Sam Hubinette in the Dodge Challenger and Tanner Foust in the Scion tC. Rhys overcame Sam in the top eight, and then moved on to battle it out with Tanner in the final four. Foust finished the event with the third spot atop the podium, after defeating FD newcomer Fredric Aasbo in the consolation round.

Rhys met Vaughn Gittin Jr. in the finals; a driver whom Rhys had run against only twice in the history of Formula Drift, and whom he has proved victorious against both of those times. Unfortunately, this weekend was unlike those previous battles, as Rhys was defeated by Gittin in the finals.

Rhys knew he had fought a good and tough battle all day in Long Beach. "We knew the changes we had made in the off-season to the Hyundai Genesis Coupe were for the better," says Rhys. "The question you never know until race day is what the competition has been up to during the off-season."

To keep the RMR Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe in top shape to battle against the toughest competition, the team uses an AEM intake system for their in-house-made engine that produces 650hp and 650lbs torque. "Filtration is key for performance," says Rhys.

Going into Round Two, Rhys finds himself in second place overall in the fight for the Formula Drift Championship, only 8 points behind Gittin. The key to a successful Formula Drift season according to Rhys will be to "start strong, stay consistent throughout the season, and maintain a consistent and reliable set-up and chassis."

Formula Drift Round Two takes place May 8-9 at Road Atlanta. "We have won in Atlanta before," says Rhys. "The goal is to carry the momentum forward and capitalize on a fast great handling and super high drip chassis."

There are ten DUB shows total, kicking off in Detroit, Michigan and ending the year long party in party-town, Las Vegas, Nevada, November 2nd and 3rd. Steve Burkett brought his sweet 2008 GMC Yukon 5.3L to the Phoenix DUB Show and won the Best Street SUV trophy.

"As a custom show car builder, I take a lot of time to compare products. While most companies offer the same product under a different name, AEM stood out to me, because while not only does it add horsepower, it also adds the old school polished aluminum look," explains Burkett.

"Almost every other company makes their components to blend in with the engine compartment, I chose AEM because of their polished intake tube. This adds a little bit of flash to the engine compartment."

Burkett says he's currently in the conceptual stages for his next project which will more than likely be a feature vehicle for General Motors.

"For that project I am choosing either a 1-ton GMC Duramax Quad Cab 4x4 or a 1-ton Dually Duramax Quad Cab," add Burkett.
